The Great River Shakespeare Festival, the Upper Mississippi River region’s premiere theatre festival, currently celebrating its 10th anniversary season, seeks a Development Director with bold vision and a strong record of creating lasting partnerships to head our advancement initiatives. With an annual operating budget of nearly $1 million, GRSF is at a unique position in its history, poised to take the next steps of growth in all areas of programming. The Development Director will report to Lee Gundersheimer, Managing DIrector, and will work closely with GRSF’s Board of Directors, its Development Committee, and Doug Scholz-Carlson, Artistic Director. Plans are currently underway for GRSF’s 2014 season and a follow-up to the Festival’s successful $1.6 million “Setting the Stage” fundraising campaign. We hope to name someone to the position of Development Director as soon as possible in order to help shape those plans.
The Development Director will provide leadership, strategic direction, management and coordination for all fundraising efforts. He or she will help create and implement fundraising strategies that increase the organization’s support from individuals, corporations, foundations, government entities and other sources. The position is full time. The successful candidate would need to live in Winona, a city of 27,000 nestled on the banks of the Mississippi River in an area that abounds with natural beauty and plentiful recreational opportunities. Proven experience in development is essential; a background in performing arts funding is desirable. Salary is competitive and with potential for growth as the festival expands programming.
