Watch this page. We’ll add a company member a day and let you know what they are playing in 2010.
Kate Mazzola
Kate Mazzola returns to play Bianca in Othello and Luciana in The Comedy of Errors. Here she is in last season’s Love’s Labour’s Lost playing Catherine (with Shanara Gabrielle, Tarah Flanagan and Nicole Rodenburg directed by Paul Barnes). She also played Juno in The Tempest.
David Rudi Utter
Rudi returns to GRSF for his third season to play Gratiano in Othello and Dr. Pinch in The Comedy of Errors. Rudi came to GRSF straight from St. Olaf College as a member of the Apprentice Actor Training Program. He’s played Leonardo in The Merchant of Venice, Curtis in The Taming of the Shrew, Costard in Love’s Labour’s Lost and the Boatswain in The Tempest. In this photo, he plays Brutus in Julius Caesar directed by Rick Barbour for the Intern/Apprentice Project.
Evan Fuller
Evan, seen here playing Tranio in The Taming of the Shrew with Bob Fairbrooke and Michael Fitzpatrick (directed by Alec Wild), returns for his 5th season at GRSF. He’ll play the Clown in Othello and Nell/Luce in The Comedy of Errors. Yes, you read that right, he’ll be our first performer in drag at GRSF since Dan Colman’s Flute/Thisbe in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and there are more surprises to come in Comedy. Evan started his GRSF career in the Apprentice Actor Training Program playing Orlando in As You Like It. He returned the next year to intern as a voice and text coach, and then joined the acting company in 2008 to play Tranio in The Taming of the Shrew and Solanio in The Merchant of Venice. Last season, he was Adrian in The Tempest and Moth in Love’s Labour’s Lost.
See the others we’ve post so far: Stephanie Lambourn, Brian White, David Coral, Erik Paulson, Corey Allen, Andrew Carlson, Shanara Gabrielle, Michael Fitzpatrick, Doug Scholz-Carlson, Tarah Flanagan, Christopher Gerson and Jonathan Gillard Daly:
Stephanie Lambourn
Stephanie Lambourn is returning to GRSF for her second year to play the Courtesan in The Comedy of Errors and the Whore/understudy to Desdemona in Othello. Last season she played the Ophelia in the Intern/Apprentice production of Hamlet and was understudy to Ariel in The Tempest. Stephanie hails from Victoria in Australia and is very excited to be returning to Winona, MN USA this season.
The Trouble with Twins
It appears that, in a reversal of what we reported on this page, Doug Scholz-Carlson will play Dromio of Syracus and Christopher Gerson will play Dromio of Ephesus in The Comedy of Errors. If we’re confused on this point before rehearsals have even started, this summer could be quite an adventure.
Brian White
Brian is returning to GRSF after taking part in the Apprentice Actor Training Program last summer. This summer he’ll play Senator/Soldier/Gentleman/Officer in Othello and the Jailor in The Comedy of Errors. He was recently Boy in Henry V and Gremio in The Taming of the Shrew at the American Theater of Actors. He just recently moved to New York with his fiance Maria Tholl, who will also be returning to GRSF. He is pictured here as the Stage Manger in Our Town in a Webster University Production directed by Quin Gresham.
David Coral
David returns for his second season at GRSF to play Montano in Othello and Balthasar in The Comedy of Errors. Last season he played Constable Dull in Love’s Labour’s Lost and Antonio in The Tempest (pictured with Andrew Carlson, directed by Alec Wild). David directs and acts in Minneapolis where his production of Enchanted April recently closed at Theater in the Round.
Erik Paulson
While the actors are the most publicly visible part of the GRSF Company, there are about 5 people backstage for every one on stage. Erik Paulson, a GRSF founding company member and with us every season since, is one of the leaders off stage. In 2010, Erik leaves his duties as Technical Director to be our set designer. He is pictured here working with Producing Director Paul Barnes on the set model for The Comedy of Errors. Erik designs sets and lights for theaters near his home in Minneapolis and around the country. GRSF audiences saw his design work on the Apprentice/Intern production of Cymbeline. To see more photos of his work, visit www.erikepaulson.com.
Andrew Carlson
Andrew originally came to the company as a member of the Apprentice Actor Training Program playing Iachimo in Cymbeline. Andrew is perhaps most famous along with his wife Kate as the parents of the first GRSF baby, Lyda. He will also lead the Shakespeare for Young Actors program for the third year.
Corey Allen
We are thrilled to welcome New York actor Corey Allen to his debut season with GRSF. He’ll play Othello in Othello and Duke Solinus in The Comedy of Errors. Past roles include Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (North Carolina Shakespeare Festival), Escalus in Measure for Measure, Claudius in Hamlet and the Duke of Milan in The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Utah Shakespearean Festival). I’ve had a wonderful time this a.m. reading and listening to EVERYTHING about GRSF. I am in North Carolina but look forward to coming to Winona for the summer! Best of luck to everyone. Charlotte Speltz
These Season 7 actor profiles alnong with a picture of the actor are great. With a new one added every couple of days, it intices one to check often to see who is coming back and who is new to the festival. They make anticipation of the GRSF plays evermore exciting. Having read the three Shakespeare plays of the season in our study group, we have often considered how the plays would be cast. These bios are wonderful introductions and reintroductions to company members.
The director of “The Comedy of Errors” (me), thinks he is now clear about which Dromio is which, and which Antipholus is which. Operative word: “thinks.”
