Journey-men and -women

New to GRSF this year, the Journeyman Program provides real-world experience for high school students interested in technical theatre. Participants in this program will assist GRSF staff members and interns as integral members of the production team for the 2013 season Apprentice/Intern project Macbeth. As members of the running and wardrobe crew, students will have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the process a play takes from design to construction to performance.

Program Overview

Before beginning work on the show, journeymen will participate in workshops taught by GRSF technical specialists concerning a wide variety of technical theatre elements. Topics may include scene design, costume design, properties construction, text analysis for designers, and stage management, among others. Students will also view both GRSF professional company shows as a group and discuss their design and technical elements.

Students with interest in any area of theatre design and technology are encouraged to apply. The journeyman program strives to provide a comprehensive experience in all technical departments, as well as the collaborative nature of technical theatre, so students will work in all departments.

This program is ideal for students who have an interest in technical theatre and have some prior experience with theatre at a high school level. Because students will serve as running crew for a GRSF production, consistent participation is required. Please see the overview schedule below. Please note that these times are approximate and subject to slight changes.

Tuition for this program is $150 per student. Scholarships are available. Please send an email to to inquire. Tuition includes tickets to each of the GRSF professional company shows.
