GRSF supports students of all ages…
Great River Collegium
The Great River Collegium focuses on the plays of William Shakespeare being produced by the Great River Shakespeare Festival the upcoming season. By definition, a collegium is a group of peers, each member holding an equal position within the group. The Socratic model we follow in our studies reflects these values. We utilize an expert Shakespearian scholar as leader/teacher for our discussions in seminar course settings. Our collegium scholar is Dr. H. Patrick Costello. [Professor Emeritus, St. Mary’s University] Great River Collegium courses are based on best practices for adult learning. Each course consists of five sessions on the five acts of the play over a five week period. Each weekly session covers one act. The collegium runs for total of fifteen weeks in late winter and spring and covers all three GRSF plays. Members donate $75 for the fifteen week sessions. This donation supports an honorarium for the leading scholar and any extra monies raised support apprentice and young actors scholarships. If you are interested in more information, contact the Great River Collegium administrator at email@example.com.
This summer, Winona State University and the Great River Shakespeare Festival are excited to bring together Shakespeare scholars and GRSF practitioners for extended public conversations about Twelfth Night (July 13th) and King Henry V (July 20th) from 10:30am–1:30pm. Shakespeare Unlocked is part of our Front Porch Event Series. Tickets must be reserved in advance at a cost of $15. This is a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of professional theatre artists and to interact with various experts in the field of Shakespearean scholarship.
In conjunction with Winona State University and the Road Scholar (previously Elderhostel) program, come spend 4 days living and learning at GRSF alongside an engaging group of fellow students from across the country. See the plays and then enhance your theater experience by discussing the production approach and exploring the plays with directors, designers and actors from the GRSF company. The expertise, enthusiasm and energy of the instructors will add greatly to your enjoyment of the program. For more information on Road Scholar program, visit www.roadscholar.org.
