A full weekend of workshops, classes, and performances geared towards classroom teachers, professors, theater students, and other educators. This will take the place of a regular Front Porch event. Schedule listed below.

Education Weekend

TRACK 1: For Classroom Teachers and Teaching Artists

Saturday July 28

10-11:30 Swap Shop

Bring your best game or exercise and get ready to barter with The Bard. Exchange curriculum with GRSF teaching artists, arts ed professionals and classroom teachers.  Walk away with new ways to take on Shakespeare.

11:45-1:00 Create Your Own Adventure

Choose from a selection of 4 trickier trade secrets. PICK TWO.

Stage Combat: Work with GRSF Artistic Director Doug Scholz-Carlson to learn 2 basic fight moves you can safely incorporate into your next staged scene

Shakespeare’s Text: Take a deeper dive into one of Shakespeare’s famous speeches with GRSF actors and learn how to make the text crystal clear

Pinterest Pro-Tech Express: GRSF tech staff will walk you through inexpensive, easy, creative ways to construct set and props that will wow your audiences and not break your bank

Shakespeare’s World: Explore Shakespeare’s time and customs giving your next Shakespearience a broader context to help meet those literature standards

2:00 Performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Followed by post-show discussion

5:00 Dinner at Concert on the Green

Dine with GRSF actors, directors and your ed weekend instructors to unpack the day and get answers to your burning questions

7:30 Performance of Choice: Attend either  Venus in Fur or All’s Well That Ends Well

Late Night Brew Evening gathering at local hotspot, Blooming Grounds, where you can get to know your colleagues and speed date with industry professionals

 

Sunday July 29

11:00 Company Conversation: Merchant of Venice

Join members of the GRSF Apprentice Company in an informal conversation addressing themes from the play, questions about the life of a young professional actor and join a breakout session with suggestions for direct application of live performance into the classroom

2:00 Performance of choice: Shakespeare in Love or Merchant of Venice

Followed by post-show discussion

5:00 Dinner at Concert on the Green Take II

Unpack the weekend and prep for the final performance

6:00 Shakespeare for Young Designers Showcase

7:00 SYA and SYF Showcase

Attend a screening of the inaugural Shakespeare for Young Filmmakers’ movie and partake in the Shakespeare for Young Actors I Showcase followed by Shakespeare for Young Actors II production of Twelfth Night.

Track 2: For College Students and Young Career Professionals

Saturday July 28

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Master Class with Apprentice Co-Directors Bryan Hunt and Jess Shoemaker

Experience a two hour intensive designed to take you through aspects of the apprentice program process.  Work will include text, movement and scene analysis of a variety of Shakespeare’s works.

2:00 Attend Apprentice production of Merchant of Venice

Followed by post-show discussion

5:00 Dinner at Concert on the Green

Dine with GRSF actors, directors and your ed weekend instructors to unpack the day and get answers to your burning questions.

7:30 Performance of Choice: Attend either Venus in Fur or All’s Well That Ends Well
