SELCO Library Programs

A Shakespeare festival and a public library: what could form a more natural partnership? After several years of successful partnerships with many Southeastern Minnesota libraries, we expanded our library programming in 2014. We facilitated workshops for both adults and teenagers at libraries in Winona, La Crescent, St. Charles, Rochester, Northfield, Lanesboro, and Rushford. Information about further library partnerships for Season 12 will be available in Spring 2015.

Facilitated by GRSF Education and Artistic staff, Library Partnership Workshop for adults gives participants the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at how we produce plays by Shakespeare, as well as the historical and cultural context surrounding each of the summer’s productions. Each library will also host a workshop for young people in conjunction with its summer reading program. In addition to donating copies of the scripts from this season’s plays, we will also contribute copies of the young adult novel Ophelia. Younger patrons will have the opportunity to try their hand at basic stage combat skills and earn complimentary GRSF tickets by participating in their library summer reading program. Made possible by generous donations from Dahl Toyota, the Dahl Family Foundation, and the Great River League, all seven of the library participating in the partnership will also have complimentary ticket vouchers available for patrons to redeem for tickets to Season 11 performances.
