Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest Initial Public Event

The Great River Shakespeare Festival will inaugurate the 2013 Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest with a sonnet jamboree on Wednesday, May 29th, 7 pm, at Mugby Junction Coffee Shop’s location on Huff Street in Winona.

Winona Poet Laureate Emilio DeGrazia will be on hand to explain sonnet forms, past Poet Laureate Ken McCullough will offer suggestions about how to write sonnets, and members of the community will be invited to step forward to read their own work. Travel schedule permitting, past Poet Laureate Jim Armstrong, who was instrumental in creating the first Sonnet Contest, will attend.

Also available will be copies of the newly-printed anthology, This Melody Weaves In And Out, which features the winning sonnets from the first 5 years of the contest. Special thanks to Julia Crozier for creating the cover art for the anthology (right). We especially invite past entrants and winners to this event.

The sonnet contest, now in its 6th year, is jointly sponsored by the Great River Shakespeare Festival and the family of Maria Faust.
