Wednesday June 25 through Sunday August 3, 2014.
On display are 20 original illustrations created by Rockwell Kent for the 1936 edition of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare” published by Garden City Publishing Company. Kent (1882-1971) was a famous painter, printmaker, illustrator and writer who lived and worked in Winona from 1912-3 and was the subject of the recent city-wide festival “Rockwell Kent in Winona: A Centennial Celebration” in early 2013. Kent produced a staggering amount of art in his long career and is best known for his book illustrations of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” as the Shakespeare prints on display at the Museum.
Rockwell Kent collector Ralf Nemec of Long Island, New York has generously loaned original prints from his collection for this exhibition.
