We are looking for up to 10 young actors, male and female, aged 10 – 17, for our 2014 season production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. Several parts are speaking roles, including Willem Page, John Rugby, and Robin, servant to Falstaff. The Festival plans a Music Man-like, turn-of-the-century setting for its production, which will run from June 25 through August 2, and play in repertory with Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Preliminary auditions will take place on Saturday, March 22 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Auditions will be held at the Winona History Center.
Young Actors attending the audition should plan to read from the script, but no memorization is required. Attire should be comfortable for movement. Scripts will be available for check-out from the GRSF Box Office located at 79 E. Third Street beginning Tuesday, March 11. Box Office Hours are 12:00-3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Young local actors are greatly encouraged to attend, no previous connection with GRSF is necessary.
“The Merry Wives of Windsor” is a charming comedy about community, set in a town not unlike Winona,” according to Paul Barnes, director of the production and the Festival’s former Artistic Director. “Although the play centers around Sir John Falstaff and his futile attempts to woo the merry wives of the play’s title, the citizens of Windsor feature importantly throughout the action, culminating in a kind of all-hallow’s eve ‘gulling’ by local school children, who disguise themselves as fairies and sprites when they set out to foil and frighten Sir John.”
